Life Member of Samuel F. Gearhart Detachment of the Marine Corps League where he was honored as "Marine of the Year" for 2004.
He was well known as a writer and singer of songs reflecting his service in Vietnam and his trip to visit the Wall in Washington, DC. He wrote a song titled “Chiseled
in Stone” which was his tribute to all the brave warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice. He wrote that song 10 years ago when he heard the Vietnam Moving Wall
was coming to Jefferson City.
While serving in the United States Marine Corps he arrived in Vietnam in March 1955 as a rifleman (grunt) and 13 months later (April 1967) came back to the world
(what the U.S.A. was called back in those days). He is quoted as having said, “As with all Vietnam Vets, part of me is still there and always will be. As a songwriter, I
feel like I’m a voice for all my brothers who served.”
Rest In Peace, Brother – as you Guard the Golden Gates.
